This time last week…

… I finished reading my book on the red roads of the western desert in W.A.

It took me about 4-5 days to read.

I haven’t read a book cover to cover in 4-5 days since David Beckhams autobiography.

True story.

I think the guys would find it a bit boring, but the girls will lap it up. Ree from The Pioneer Woman has not just written her sappy love-story, but has exposed her search for identity, purpose, and how it all flipped after getting married.

This is a really good read and I recommend it highly.

Packages in the mail

Over the last few weeks, I’ve had a few packages arrive I’m the mail.

Shoes… dresses… shoes…

and now this:

Talk about exciting!

This is the real love story of Pioneer Woman and Marlboro Man – how her life was tipped upside down when she went from a black heel-wearing slick L.A. lawyer to tractor wheels as a farmer’s wife in Oklahoma. If you don’t have a clue who these people are and what I’m talking about, you need to check out her blog.

PW’s love story has been signed to be made into a feature film and Reese Witherspoon has been asked to play Ree. I read the first 40-odd pages back last year which is available on her blog, and I couldn’t put it down. That girl has talent – she will suck you into her world and will have you laughing and crying at the same time.

This is in perfect timing for our Western Australian adventure beginning in the morning.

Stylish? Yeah right!

Very late Tuesday night (Ok maybe it was very early Wednesday morning), I found a very cute comment from my friend in Melbourne Kymmie who lives over here at A day in the life of us.

The comment is below:

… And, just on the side, I’ve just nominated you for a stylish award. Stylish girl. Pop over to graciously accept it here: http://kympiez.blogspot.com/2010/12/stylish-who-me-nah.html

Kymmie, I’m not sure anyone has told you but you are a Hot Mumma, and a very talented blogger too! A day in the life of us is a fantastic blog where we can be lost in your world with classic adventures with your kids, food stuff, parenting stuff, fashion stuff – it’s just a really fun read! Time to subscribe people!

SHARING – I’ve got bloggers block, so I’ve only got 5!

1. I think about blogging all day long – it’s true. My friend Mark is in brand design and uses me as an example to his clients. “You need to do what Bec does. Everything she does, everything she looks at, everything she says she questions whether it is bloggable.” Am I exaggerating Marko?

2. I love my husband – He is fun, but serious. He is silly, but responsible. He is independent, but relies on me. He is 33, but acts like he is 23. He loves his Saviour, and so do I. The End.

3. I heart Real Estate - There’s nothing better than helping people move forward in their life – no matter their circumstances.

3. I love food - I can’t deny it. I love when my husband cooks for me. He has done so every night this week. Thanks Babe – you’re a legend! xo

4. I love road trips - Richie always drives, and I don’t mind at all! We do road trips very well together. My two favourites this year have been the East Coast of USA roadie and the South New Zealand roadie.

5. I love mountains - My brother-in-law was talking about going to Nepal the other night and doing some trekking. I secretly fell into a coma while he was talking about it and started dreaming and drooling. The Himalaya’s are awesome.

  PAY IT FORWARD

  1. Vanessa’s “Vanessa Jane Photography” - This is my sisters photography blog. I keep telling her I want to see more of her work – so hurry up an put some stuff up there girlfriend!
  2. Ree’s “The Pioneer Woman” - Ree is THE original blogger who inspired me to blog. I fell in love with her story and her world and thought, geez, I wonder if anyone would be interested in reading about our world?
  3. Linzi’s “Linzi Aitken Photo Blog” - Extremely talented hot mumma! Linzo and I go way back, yep like high-school. She may have been in about Year 12 when I was in Year 7. It was Linzo who I asked “Would you read the rubbish I write if I start a blog?” Her reply… “Of course Beckstar!”
  4. Tamsin’s “Adventures of an Undomesticated Goddess” - This lovely lady grew up down the road from me and I remember getting a lift to school with her, her Mum and her brother when I was in Year 1 or 2. Little Tamsin would sit in the backseat singing along Pennant Hills Road making up random songs. I also remember the day she was born “My Mum had a baby. It’s a girl.” Lucas circa 1985ish.
  5. Erica’s “Eat Your Heart Out” - Another lover of food, but actually has talent and who can cook. Erica married my mate Marko, Linzo’s little brother-in-law.
  6. Mali’s “A Life Less Ordinary” - a friend who went to school with my sister and who also knew my husband before I met him -random! This girl knows how to blog in sentences. Truly awesome.
  7. Amen Sister” -  This is maintained by my super sweet friends Tan & Nikki from my church. It’s a super cool site and you should all subscribe!
  8. Bower Power” – I stumbled across Katie’s blog through Young House Love. Very cool stuff.
  9. Fly Through Our Window” - Again I totally stumbled across this blog. Such lovely pictures, inspiring text. Just beautiful. I think it may just be my all time favourite blog.
  10. “Young House Love “Erica got me on to these two love birds. They have great ideas!
  11. Friday Playdate” – another random stumble, but found it really interesting in terms of how she mixes and matches her wardrobe.
  12. Lost & Fawned”  – Random stumble but really love the vintage pieces featured.
  13. The Sartorialist” - it’s stunning fashion captures a world that I don’t live in here in the ‘burbs. But it’s fun to dream! I’m pretty sure Mali’s blog hooked me up with this one.
  14. Eleonora’s “Aglio, Olio, Peperoncino” - Be still my beating heart. My friend Liana told me about this lovely lady’s blog. She is a foodie and travel writer living in Rome… where I left my heart! You know with all the carbs.
  15. “A Lego a day” – This was a freshly pressed page on the WordPress home page. I found it while I was waiting for my flight to bring us home the other day. It is totally funny, and he is totally classy with his humour.

So go and enjoy!

Thanks again Kym! xo

Last night I was meant to blog…

It was nice and quiet in my house last night.

Richie had gone out to pick up our mate Darren from the airpot. Darren is our friend from the West who drove Esther and I to Memphis…. remember?

It was a perfect time to knuckle down and do some serious (NOT!) blogging. But the domestic goddess in me sprung into action and I went on a major cleaning spree.

I sorted and organised my kitchen cupboards. I sorted and organised my food pantry. Then I opened my freezer and started to hack into it.

I think it all started for two reasons. 1) I took home a Dymo labeller yesterday from work to label my “Plain Flour” & “Self Raising Flour” containers. 2) I cleaned out the freezer at work the day before, and it was totally satisfying!

But then this morning, I read this Pioneer Womans post and it made me realise, I need to water my plant.

It’s not a cactus.

I love The Pioneer Woman

On the first day of official “Church Business”, I explored the big wide world of the CNN Center.

Apart from your classic American fast food joints, like Dunkin Doughnuts, Starbucks and Chick-fil-A, there are a few gift stores downstairs for us tourists to spend our dollars. One of these stores is a book store. As I wandered in looking for a $3.86 trashie mag, there she was smiling at me.

“Pioneer Woman! What are you doing here?”

I couldn’t believe my eyes! Inside I did a little squeal, and a jig, and grabbed her with both hands and didn’t let her go. I almost raised the book up to my cheek to rub it against my face like you do with newborns.

“I love you, I love you, where have you been all my life!?!”

This cookbook was at the top of the “Things I want to buy in the USA” list which I established before we left Sydney. I was excited.

Dear Pioneer Woman,

Here are 10 reasons why I love you:

  1. You have a similar “I can’t believe I’m here, married to you” experience like me. Two city girls marrying country boys. We both would never have imagined we would fall head over heels for these lads. (Read Pioneer Woman & Marlboro Man’s Love Story here – it’s the best! I read 40 chapters in 1 weekend. I haven’t done that much reading since David Beckham’s autobiography. Their story is going to be made into a movie.)
  2. You are soooooo unbelievably funny
  3. You have fabulous photos and you like helping other people take/photoshop fabulous photos
  4. You don’t take yourself or your situation seriously – you know how to have a good laugh at yourself and your surroundings.
  5. You are an active and committed Christian and you are consciously raising your children to be as well.
  6. I heard about you from a Tweet from Dr Phil’s wife (RANDOM!) on Twitter. It went something like “Hi Ree, my girlfriend has just got me onto your blog. You’re hilarious and I love you!”  (DOUBLE RANDOM!)
  7. You are stuck on a monster-big ranch with lots of cattle in the middle of America far away from any kind of civilization and sushi-trains and I secretly want to have an oasis like that.
  8. Your blog is never-ever-ever-ever boring. I like hearing about how messy your home is and that your kids like to wrestle and that you prefer to send the kids to work out on the ranch with their father so they don’t annoy you.
  9. You have a cook-book which is more than a cookbook, but an insight to your life with your family on that monster-big ranch.
  10. You inspired me to blog.

With love and many more happy posts,

The Pastor’s Wife
